As a Spanish major at �鶹ҹ��, you will learn about Hispanic cultures all around the world and here in Louisiana. When you major in Spanish, you’ll learn about Hispanic languages, literature, and cultures in a city with deep roots in Spanish culture.

Since you will take the Advanced Credit Exams, you may come into the Spanish program farther along in your curriculum. Because of this, Spanish students don’t have a strict four-year plan. Instead, you will focus on these four areas of study.

Program Requirements

Admissions Requirements

To major in Spanish and Hispanic studies, you must meet the University's admissions requirements.

Graduation Requirements

You will be required to maintain a grade of “C” or better in each major Spanish course and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better to graduate.

You will need to earn an 18-hour .

You are also required to have an exit interview during your last semester. This is an ungraded, informal discussion used for assessment of the program. It is mandatory but does not affect your record in any way.

You must take the Advanced Credit Exam at the beginning of your studies in Spanish at the University.

Taking the exam will help the department place you in the right course for your level. When you complete your first course after taking the exam, you will receive official credit for the previous Spanish courses.

To complete a minor in Spanish, you will need to complete 18 credits hours of Spanish courses, with a minimum of 6 credit hours at the 300 or 400 levels.

SPAN 101 does not count toward the Spanish minor.

If you take Spanish to fulfill a language requirement, you can complete the minor with only three additional courses. Enhance your cultural experience of Lafayette and the surrounding area by minoring in Spanish.
