UL Press publications garner awards

Four UL Press titles have earned gold and bronze medals in the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Gold winners are:

ā€œGenerating Hopeā€ by Geoff Gjertson, which documents the BeauSoleil solar home designed and built by a team from Ā鶹Ņ¹ŹŠ for the 2009 Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C.; and

ā€œYou Donā€™t Know Meā€ by James Nolan, a collection of short stories about New Orleans.

ā€œGenerating Hopeā€ earned the top award in the Architecture category, while ā€œYou Donā€™t Know Meā€ was cited in the South ā€“ Best Regional Fiction category.

Bronze winners are:

ā€œThe Irish in New Orleansā€ by Laura D. Kelley, a history of the Irish in New Orleans illustrated with photographs; and

ā€œThe Public Art of Robert Daffordā€ by Philip Gould, a vivid depiction of the renowned artistā€™s work through text and photography.

Kelleyā€™s book was judged in in the South ā€“ Best Regional Non-Fiction category; Gouldā€™s was in the coffee table books category.

The IPPY Awards, launched in 1996, are intended to increase recognition to deserving, but often unsung, titles produced by independent authors and publishers. Established as the first awards program open exclusively to independents, over 3,000 IPPYs have been awarded to authors and publishers around the world.
