The LHC Group • Myers School of Nursing at the 鶹ҹ has earned the 2023 Nightingale Nursing School of the Year for Undergraduate Programs.

The school, which is part of 鶹ҹ’s , was recognized recently during a ceremony hosted by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation.

The foundation advances and supports professional nurses through research and education. It is the philanthropic arm of the Louisiana State Nurses Association, which fosters professional nursing practice standards for registered nurses and is an advocate for quality health care.

The Nightingale Nursing School of the Year for Undergraduate Programs award is named for Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered the mother of modern nursing.

Earning the award hinges on success in many areas, including first-time passage rates on the National Council Licensure Exam, which graduates who hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing must pass to practice as a registered nurse.

Nursing education innovations in the classroom, clinical laboratories and as part of clinical practice are also considered. So, too, are recruitment and retention.

Dr. Lisa Broussard, interim dean of the College of Nursing & Health Sciences, said the ’s selection for the Nightingale Nursing School of the Year for Undergraduate Programs award owes to “the strength and dedication of our faculty – and our students.”

“Our faculty members’ collective expertise and tireless devotion to the students they teach and mentor ensures that our graduates receive the knowledge and training necessary for them to become exceptional nurses,” Broussard said.

That’s significant, she added, given the University’s position as the primary creator of Acadiana’s health care workforce, a position for which students share ample credit.

“The great majority of our graduates stay in this region to work, fashioning careers distinguished by the sort of service and leadership that both helps others and advances health care,” Broussard explained.
