The Âé¶¹Ò¹ÊÐ is approved by the U.S. Department of State to host student interns from outside the United States at our University.
The following criteria must be met to qualify for the J-1 Student Intern category:
- The student must be currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree at an accredited postsecondary academic institution outside the U.S.
- The student must be in good academic standing at his/her home institution outside the U.S.
- Have sufficient finances to support him/herself and dependents for their entire stay in the U.S., including housing and living expenses.
- The internship must fulfill the educational objectives for his/her current degree program at his/her home institution.
- The student intern must have verifiable English language skills sufficient to function on a day to day basis in the internship environment at the Âé¶¹Ò¹ÊÐ.
- The student must be engaged in a student internship program rather than engaging in employment or providing services to an employer.
- The internship must be full-time, that is, at least 32 hours per week, and may not exceed twelve months.
- A concluding evaluation (as well as a midpoint evaluation if internship exceeds six months), to be signed by the student intern and the immediate supervisor at the Âé¶¹Ò¹ÊÐ, must be kept on record by the Division of Global Engagement following completion of the internship
- Must return to his/her academic program outside the U.S. and fulfill and obtain a degree from said academic institution after completion of the student internship program.
